Carbonbase was started by a team of passionate technologists, designers, and finance professionals who were deeply concerned about the urgency of effective climate change action. Having attended UNFCCC Conference of the Parties, we were inspired by the energy of youth, but frustrated by the glacial speed of policy formation. We wanted to create a platform to drive big change in corporate and governmental action.

Dr. Ulf Henning Richter is a professor, author, public speaker, and energy and infrastructure expert, based in Hong Kong SAR, China. He previously served as Chairman / Head of Office of Lukoil Asia Pacific Hong Kong Branch. Prior academic appointments include Tongji University, University of Nottingham Ningbo China, Portland State University, and Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. He received a Doctorate in Economic Sciences from HEC Lausanne, Switzerland, and an MBA from European Business School, Oestrich-Winkel in Germany, and was a Visiting Scholar with INSEAD and a Visiting Fellow at Harvard University. He has 20 years of work experience and a global network throughout East and South East Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America.
Ms. Ruby Shang joined The Asia Foundation Board of Trustees in 2017. Ms. Shang was Country Director, Asia Director and Advisor at the Clinton Foundation from 2003 to 2015, where she established the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) in Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Papua New Guinea, Thailand and Vietnam. She first implemented CHAI in China as Country Director and assisted the Chinese Ministry of Health to successfully implement a national Care & Treatment program for HIV/AIDS, In 2008, she assumed additional responsibility for the Clinton Climate Initiative in China, Japan, Korea, Australia, and throughout Southeast Asia, implementing sustainable Energy Efficiency Programs for Building Retrofit and Solid Waste with eleven city governments, as well as Forestry programs with the national Forestry Ministries in Cambodia and Indonesia. In 2011 she became the Asia Director for the Clinton Climate Initiative. In September 2014, she assumed the role of Senior Advisor to the overall foundation and left the Clinton Foundation in October of 2015.

Emmanuelle Prono is an accomplished leader in ESG, sustainability, legal, and compliance with deep operational experience in product development, manufacturing and global supply chains. She is currently a senior advisor at the AdviXory, a global advisory practice which helps organisations navigate challenges in business and supply chain through public affairs, sustainability and human capital strategies. Most recently she was the Group Vice President, Sustainability and Deputy General Counsel at a multinational listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange. Passionate about sharing experience and expertise, she collaborates with senior leadership to create, define, and implement their ESG strategy to achieve critical results in decarbonisation and social rights across their organisations and value chains.
She is active with non-profit organisations, trained as a B Corporation leader and Climate Fresk facilitator. As a member of Mayaa Nepal, she is working with the organisation which is dedicated to improve the lives of underprivileged children in Nepal and Hong Kong. She co-founded and held board membership of Emergency Hong Kong, an organisation providing free, high-quality healthcare to people affected by conflict and poverty.
Emmanuelle holds a Bachelor Degree and Master Degree in International Relations and International Business Law from ILERI (Paris) and a Master Degree in International Law from the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis. She successfully completed the Sustainability Business Management course, University of Cambridge (Institute for Sustainability Leadership).
Climate Advisor
Katherine is a Senior Advisor to the Social Alpha Foundation, TheDigital Economist and The Open Earth Foundation where she leads collaborations with the UNFCCC Global Innovation Hub. A former diplomat specializing in human security and climate, Katherine has been spearheading innovation at the nexus of technology, policy and sustainable development for 30 years. She has held leadership roles at Climate-KIC (Europe’s largest Climate Innovation Initiative) and served as CSO of the Green Digital Finance Alliance (Ant Financial –UNEP NGO) where she advised the UN Secretary General's Task Force on Digital Financing of the SDGs.
Katherine is a member of the EU Blockchain Observatory, the BIS Digital Green Bond Project Genesis, and the ESMA FISC Working Groups and is active contributor to digital innovation programs, accelerator, and educational initiatives globally. Katherine is Swiss-Canadian and currently based in Fribourg, Switzerland.
